In common with many Scottish charities SNAC plan to change our ‘legal form’ to become a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
We will hold an Extraordinary General Meeting on 17th April at 7pm to seek approval from our membership to make this change.
This meeting will be held on Teams and all members will receive the link by email.

What difference will this make to members?
This change will not affect what we do as an organisation, all our work and plans will continue as before.  SNAC is, and will remain, a parent led organisation delivering support to families affected by JIA and related conditions.  All our committee/trustees are unpaid volunteers and there are no plans to change that.

Why should we make this change?
In our current unincorporated form, all assets are deemed to belong to the committee/trustees and we are also deemed responsible for all liabilities.  As a SCIO all assets and liabilities belong to SNAC as they would in a normal limited company.  SNAC will also be able to apply for funding and grants that are not available to unincorporated charities.

What will the meeting decide?
SNAC is run by member for members.  All members are entitled to vote on whether we make such a change.
There will be two resolutions voted on at the meeting.

  • That SNAC proceed with the plan to change legal form to become a SCIO.
  • If resolution 1 is passed, that SNAC adopt a new constitution which has been amended to suit the requirements of being a SCIO.
